Brahms Idyll (1997):
One day I wanted to compose, but it did not work. On this day I could not sleep and at two o’clock in the morning I went to the Detmold Castle Park, where there is a Brahms bust. I thought he might be able to help me solve my musical worries. So I asked him, “Please dear Brahms, all day I have tried to compose and it has not worked. Please give me a few bars as a leitmotif so that I can build on this idea musically. “Disappointed that no quick response from Brahms came, I returned home and then, when I unlocked the front door, I suddenly heard with my inner ear, the first Clock of the main motive of this piece. Thanks again Brahms!
